HOLLY SCOTT PHOTOGRAPHY - WHAT TO EXPECT GUIDE FOR NEWBORN SESSIONS
Studio Session
I’m so excited to have you in my studio! I take great care in your images and the posing of your baby. Please know that I use all precautions and safety standards while wrapping, posing and places your baby. This session will be baby-lead. This means I take my queues from baby. If a certain pose or position causes baby to get upset with more than a couple attempts then we will forfeit that position and move on. Every baby is different. Some love certain positions and some like others. We will try to capture everything possible, but please know if your baby does not want to cooperate in certain poses I will make it my top priority to listen to them and offer them a comfort level they are happy with. Above all else, their comfort and safety come before anything.
This session typically ranges between 1.5-3 hours depending on how fluidly baby will move between poses and transitions.
Your session includes the use of high quality, specialty made newborn props, equipment, backdrops & more. I have spent years procuring specialty made items to include but not limited to: newborn posing beds, chairs, wraps, bonnets, hats, baskets, buckets, outfits, florals, newborn sized prop bears, bunnies and other themed stuffed props, blankets, backdrops, posing bean bags, pillows, tie-back headbands and more.
If you have a special interest that you would like included in your newborn session, please allow me 4+ weeks to procure specialty items and props for your theme requests. I currently have specialty theme props for Star Wars, Golf, Football, Fishing, etc. These specialty props take a lot of time to order from vendors who hand make these items specifically for newborn photography and therefore I will need time to order these items.
The workflow of our time together will begin with Parent and or sibling portraits, then into direct focus of the baby the remaining time. I will begin with simple posing on a beanbag set up using discussed color pallets. On the bean bag I will attempt multiple poses that may be wrapped or unwrapped depending on the comfort of the baby. After the bean bag posing is complete I will transition into baskets, buckets and other transitional props. A nursing pillow is available for your use and baby’s comfort if desired. There is a changing table and wipes also available in the studio space. If you would prefer privacy when nursing please voice your preference. I am happy to leave the room for your comfort. If you are not concerned with me leaving the room, I will use that time to clean up or transition props and set ups.
Newborn sessions are best completed between the first 7-10 days after birth, but at least within the first two weeks after birth for best results. The most important thing is that Mom and Baby are both happy and healthy before proceeding with a photography session. A session can always be done outside of these parameters so please don’t hesitate to discuss scheduling beyond the two week mark at any time.
I have invested my time and money to train specifically for newborn photography techniques, posing, wrapping and safety. I am also a mother of four and take safety very seriously. I will be wearing a mask while working with your baby. This is to ensure their safety from any external germs. I will also regularly wash hands or use hand sanitizer.
If preferred, a family and sibling portrait can be taken at the start of your newborn session. Family and sibling pictures will be taken at the beginning of the newborn session so that Dad and siblings will be excused directly after their portraits for and outing or to go home so the focus can be on the newborn for the remaining duration of our session.
The studio room will be very warm for the comfort of the baby. Please feel free to bring a change of comfortable clothes. There will be refreshments provided for your convenience but please feel free to bring any drink or snack that would make you most comfortable for the duration of our session.
Other children and/or family members are welcome to remain in the studio room with us, make themselves comfortable in the adjacent playroom, or leave the studio and return when the remainder of the newborn session is complete. We ask that if you choose to keep siblings in the studio room for the duration of the session that you plan ahead for them to have something to entertain or comfort them so the newborn is not disturbed.
It is advised that clients keep their newborn awake for an hour prior to the session as well as feed them very well right before the start of the session. Suggestions would be to give them a sponge bath to keep them awake, changing diapers, stimulating them with talking, song or touch, etc. Bring a ready made bottle and pacifier. We know this is not an easy task as little ones are very sleepy at this age. Do not stress over this recommendation, just do your very best. Our goal is to tire them out so that posing is easier for baby and photographer during our time together. The more tired and comfortable we can make the baby the better.
A newborn may require more feeding time during a newborn photo session due to many factors such as thirst, soothing, and hunger. Please be prepared for additional feedings above and beyond their normal schedule during our time together should they need it.
I will work with the family and the baby to provide beautiful images of your little one. Afterward I take care during editing to make touch-ups, skin smoothing, blemish removal, any necessary edits to ensure your images are of professional high quality standard before delivering your gallery to you. Please make sure you are happy with my current photography style before booking a photography session as I want all of my clients to be happy with my style and therefore happy with their final product.
If you have any special requests for editing or poses of the baby, please make these desires known before the session so I have time to prepare for them.
